10 Things You Should Know About Chevy’s Latest Truck
Chevrolet invited Street Trucks out to Jackson Hole, Wyoming to get behind the wheel of the all-new Silverado—and it was the perfect setting. Out there, trucks aren’t just vehicles, they’re a way of life.
Over the course of a full day, we put the 2019 Silverado through its paces—on pavement, off-road, and even under load. We explored all eight trim levels and spent time with the engineers and designers responsible for the redesign. One thing became clear: this isn’t just a refresh—Chevy went all-in.

Here are 10 standout features that define the new Silverado:
1. A Surprisingly Strong Turbo-Four
The new 2.7L turbocharged four-cylinder engine makes a serious case for itself. Found in LT and RST trims, it produces 310 horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque—outperforming the older 4.3L V6 across the board. It’s worth a test drive before forming any opinions.
2. Upgraded V8 Powertrains
Both V8 options—the 5.3L and 6.2L—have been refined. Chevy’s new Dynamic Fuel Management system replaces the old Active Fuel Management, allowing up to 17 different cylinder activation patterns. Output comes in at 355 hp/383 lb-ft for the 5.3L and 420 hp/460 lb-ft for the 6.2L.

3. Smarter Transmission Options
The 2.7L and updated 5.3L engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while base models retain a six-speed. The 6.2L and upcoming 3.0L diesel get a 10-speed automatic. Buyers can choose between traditional 4WD setups or a lighter-duty single-range AWD system.
4. Bigger Yet Lighter
The Silverado has grown in every direction—wider, taller, longer, and with a longer wheelbase. Despite that, it sheds up to 450 pounds thanks to a redesigned chassis. Aluminum is used for the hood and doors, while the bed remains high-strength steel. A new boxed steel frame improves rigidity while reducing weight.
5. Serious Off-Road Capability
The Z71 off-road package is now available across all trims. It adds Rancho shocks, skid plates, hill descent control, and more. Step up to the Trail Boss trims and you’ll get a factory lift, upgraded suspension components, and enhanced 4x4 hardware for tougher terrain.
6. More Interior Space and Tech
The cabin has been expanded, especially in the rear. Crew cab models gain an extra 3 inches of legroom. Storage is improved with new under-seat compartments, and interior options range from basic vinyl to premium leather. Tech features include advanced infotainment systems, Bose audio, and a head-up display.
7. Noticeably Quieter Ride
Improved suspension design and new cab mounts significantly reduce road noise. Hydraulic engine mounts come standard across all engines, resulting in a refined driving experience—even with aggressive off-road tires.

8. Strong Towing and Payload Numbers
Towing capacity starts at 7,200 pounds with the turbo-four and climbs to 12,200 pounds with the 6.2L V8. Payload ranges from 2,100 to 2,500 pounds. Available camera systems—including a trailer-mounted option—make towing easier and safer.

9. Eight Trim Levels to Choose From
The Silverado lineup spans from a no-nonsense Work Truck to the fully loaded High Country. In between, trims like Custom, LT, RST, and Trail Boss offer varying levels of capability and comfort. Pricing ranges from mid-$50K for a Trail Boss to over $60K for a fully equipped High Country.

10. Best Driving Silverado Yet
Chevy has refined the driving dynamics across the board. Updates like a taller steering knuckle reduce feedback, while revised suspension tuning improves ride quality. Whether on-road or off, the Silverado feels more composed and confident than ever.

Final Thoughts
The 2019 Silverado represents a major step forward for Chevy’s full-size truck lineup. With new powertrains, improved capability, and a more refined driving experience, it’s a strong contender in a highly competitive segment.
If you’re in the market for a new truck, this one deserves a serious look.
